How much does it cost?
Obtaining your Private Pilot license costs $4000 to $6000. This cost includes flight and ground training in a Cessna 150 and ground school materials. The cost will vary between individuals, depending on how many hours it takes to complete training. The minimum required amount of training to complete the course is 40 hours. The national average is around 70 hours.

What materials will I need to purchase?
You will need to purchase a Private Pilot kit (which contains all of the necessary ground school materials) and a headset. A good headset will cost between $100 and $300.

How long does is take to complete the training?
Training is normally completed in around 6 to 9 months, depending on how often the student schedules flight lessons.

How do I schedule a flight lesson?
Call Pro Flight Air and ask to schedule an Introductory / Discovery Flight. Your instructor will allow you to get hands-on experience in flying the airplane and answer your questions about starting flight training.

When do I schedule flight lessons?
We will conduct flight training to fit your schedule. Flight training is offered 7 days a week. Our office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., however, you may schedule lessons after office hours. You should schedule a lesson 2 or 3 days in advance to assure availability of the airplane and instructor.

How often should I take a flight lesson?
Ideally, flight lessons should be scheduled 2-3 times per week. How often you fly depends on how much time you have available. The more often you fly, the less overall flight time it will take to complete the training. Students who fly often develop confidence in their abilities much more quickly, and require less review time during flight lessons.

How do I choose an instructor?
You will schedule with an instructor when you start your flight training. It is important that the instructor and student have a good working relationship. If you feel this is not the case, then you may choose to train with another instructor.

Do I always fly with the same instructor?
Generally it is a good idea to train with the same instructor in order for the training to have continuity. You will fly with other instructors occasionally for progress checks.

Pilot

What airplane will I use for training?
The Cessna 150 is a two-place airplane and is the most economical. We also have larger 4-place airplanes available.

What will I be doing during my flight training?
You will learn to be a safe and competent pilot. Flight training consists of the following stages:

  • Learn to fly the airplane solo.
  • Learn to fly solo cross-country.
  • Complete the ground school, and take your knowledge test.
  • Prepare for final flight and oral test for your license.

What tests will I have to take?
You must take a knowledge test after completing ground school. These tests are done on computer and cost $80. After completing all of your training, you will also take an oral and flight test with an FAA pilot examiner. The fee for this test is normally $200.

When will I solo?
Students normally solo after around 10 to 15 hours. This varies between students. You and your instructor will both know when you are ready to fly the airplane by yourself.

What are the instructors' qualifications?
All of our instructors are commercial pilots with instrument ratings and are certified to instruct by the FAA.

How do I pay for flight lessons?
There are 3 ways to pay:
1. Pay as you go (at the end of each lesson). We accept Visa, MasterCard and Discover.
2. You may put up to $500 at a time on your account to pay for lessons.
3. You may obtain financing through Pilot Finance Inc. (http://www.pilotfinance.com/). Ask our Flight School Coordinator for an application, or call Pilot Finance Inc. at 800-667-0201.

Do you offer ground school classes?
All ground school classes are conducted one-on-one with your instructor.

Do you offer Introductory / Discovery Flights?
Yes. You will be able to take the controls of the airplane under the supervision of one of our instructors. The purpose of the Introductory Flight is to find out what flying an airplane is like before you decide to make a commitment to flight training. Introductory flights cost $30.00 in the 2-place airplane, and $55.00 in the 4-place airplane.

Will I be able to rent airplanes after getting my Private Pilot license?
Yes. You certainly will be able to rent the airplane you did your training in. Renting one of our 4-place airplanes, or any airplane in which you have not had training, will require a short checkout (usually requiring one hour) with an instructor.
