Discovery Flight
Ever since you were a child, you would hear a plane overhead and stop, look up and watch until you could no longer see it and say: “Someday I’m gong to fly like that.” Have you made that childhood dream into a reality? Isn’t it time to make your dream come true? We want to help to you achieve that childhood dream.
Learning to fly is easy and fun and is something that almost anyone can do. Whether you want to learn to fly for your own enjoyment and recreation, for business travel or to pursue a career in aviation, we can help you make it a reality.
All of us at Pro Flight Air are dedicated and committed to assisting each of our students in pursuing their dreams and goals in a professional and efficient manner. It is a joy for us to see the excitement on the face of a first time flyer on our Discovery Flight, or sharing in a student's celebration when he or she has made that childhood dream a reality, and can say: “Someday is now, and I can fly that plane.”
Come let us help make YOUR dream come true.
Pro Flight Air offers a fun and affordable way to see if pursuing your Private Pilot License is right for you...and your discovery flight can be recorded in a pilot logbook. You'll meet your instructor when you enter our flight school, and will be given a tour of our facilities and learning resources. Then you will be given a preflight briefing. You'll learn many interesting facts about your aircraft as your instructor coaches you through preflight inspection, run up, and taxi to the active runway...but the best feeling will come when you take the controls, and with your instructor's guidance, apply full throttle and take off for a 30-minute training flight. Just call to schedule an appointment. It's time to satisfy your curiosity and take your place in the pilot's seat.
Flight Training
Pro Flight Air Offers professional flight training for the following certificates and ratings:
Private Pilot Certificate
The Private Pilot Certificate allows a pilot to fly friends or business acquaintances anywhere he or she desires under VFR (visual flight rules). VFR is a simple term that basically means good weather. If weather conditions deteriorate below 3 miles of visibility or the cloud ceiling drops below 1000 feet above the ground, the pilot is not allowed to fly.
40 hours of total flight training time must be accumulated before Private Certification can transpire. 20 hours of instruction and 10 hours of solo time are required – the other 10 hours of instruction are a mix of the two, with cross country flying included. The national average for certification is 55 hours. Costs vary depending on the aircraft used for training. The typical costs incurred will range from $5000 to $7500. Generally, training may be completed within a 6-month timeframe. This varies with the student’s abilities and time availability. In addition to flight training, the Private Pilot applicant will receive 20 to 30 hours of ground training from his or her instructor throughout the course of his or her training.
Instrument Rating
Instrument flying is exactly what it says: flying and navigating the aircraft solely by reference to flight instruments. The term for instrument flying is IFR (instrument flight rules). A VFR Private Pilot has trouble flying in inclement weather. If he had an instrument rating, he would be able to fly in the clouds and fog.
For a pilot to be eligible for the instrument rating they must have met the following additional aeronautical experience requirements: 150 hours total time, consisting of 50 hours of cross country flying, 40 hours of actual or simulated instrument time, and 20 hours of dual instruction from an instructor under instrument conditions. Gaining the additional total flight time and instruction time will usually cost approximately $10,000. The instrument rating requirement can take up to a year to complete.
Commercial Pilot Certificate
The true definition of a commercial pilot is one who can fly for hire. Initially, Commercial pilots are certified only to fly single engine airplanes. In time, the pilot will add a multi-engine rating and this will qualify him or her to move toward a career with an airline or charter service. The beginning stages for a newly certified commercial pilot include flying traffic patrol, offering pilot services to customers who have their own plane, and aerial photo flights. After an extensive accumulation of hours flying multi-engine aircrafts, the commercial pilot is then qualified to apply for an airline position.
The difference in flying skills between a private pilot and a commercial pilot is in the standards to which each are tested. Commercial pilots fly to higher standards.
Total time requirement for a Commercial pilot applicant are 250 hours of total time; 50 hours must be done while flying cross country.
Certified Flight Instructor, Certified Instrument Flight Instructor & Multi-Engine Instructor
A Certified Flight Instructor, commonly referred to as a CFI, is an aviation instructor qualified to give ground and flight instruction. Initially, a CFI is allowed only to teach Private Pilot and Commercial Pilot applicants. To teach instrument students the instructor must take another check and be certified as a Certified Flight Instructor Instrument or CFII. Another common aviation term you will hear is MEI. This is a multi-engine instructor who can teach in multi-engine aircraft. They must pass another flight test in order to give flight instruction in multi-engine aircraft.
Multi-Engine Rating & the ATP (Airline Transport Pilot) Certificate
Multi-engine aircraft open a whole new world of opportunities. Most pilots decide to add the multi-engine rating for either advancement in career aviation or as a means to increase skill levels. A multi-engine rating adds a new dimension to flying by adding more power, system and performance challenges.
Pro Flight Air offers three courses in Multi-Engine Flight Training in our Cessna 310:
